Gold is a safe investment and its value continues to increase. If you have a jewel, an ingot, a coin or any other gold object and you want to sell it or simply know its value, find some tips here.

How do I know what type of gold jewellery I have?

You should know that there are several purities of gold, and that you will have to determine the carat of your metal. This is the amount of gold present in your jewellery: the higher it is, the more its value will increase.

In order to easily know the purity of gold, you can refer to the hallmarks found on objects in gold, silver… When it comes to gold jewellery, if you see:

  • an eagle’s head or an owl: your object will be made of 75% gold, i.e. 18 carats
  • a scallop shell: you will be in the presence of an object with 58.5% gold or 14 carats
  • a clover: it will contain 37.5% gold, i.e. a 9-carat jewel

Small tip: If however you have a doubt about the type of metal of your object or jewel, know that gold, silver and copper are not magnetic. So, if you have a magnet you can pass it over your belongings and if they c stick to your magnet, then you will be in the presence of an iron or nickel costume jewellery without much value.

Follow the price of gold

The other important element to know the value of your gold is to regularly consult the price of gold. Thus, you can have a vision on when you can sell your gold at the best price.
