Hallmarks
There is a simple technique to find out if your French silverware is plated or not. Each objet has a mark showing the initials of the manufacturer, and if it is in silver, an additional hallmark stamped by the government. If the maker's mark is set within a lozenge shape, the objet is solid silver, if it is set within a square, the object is plated.
